The PanIIT 2009 Global Conference Business Plan Competition - Unlocking the Entrepreneurial Energy Within
The PanIIT 2009 Global Conference to be held at Chicago, IL from October 9-11th promises to be one of the biggest Global Conferences promoting entrepreneurship and innovation. With business leaders and startup entrepreneurs alike sharing the paltform and space, the entire ecosystem is surely going to be a space which will ensure creation of possibilities around for the entire community.

Some of the most successful IITians in the past like Vinod Khosla, Desh Deshpande, Narayana Murthy and countless others have made their mark on the world. You could be one of the next generation great entrepreneurs.
Objective of the Bplan competition
The PanIIT 2009 Business Plan competition aims to unlock the latent entrepreneurial energy within the IITian community by providing a platform for enabling discovery, networking, mentoring and funding of new business ideas. The competition will appropriately conclude at the 2009 PanIIT conference in Chicago to be held on October 9 -11, 2009. With the spirit of entrepreneurship at an all time high, this is an opportunity for our alums and students to take their ideas to becoming the next big company. It is the perfect time to find mentors, partners and investors.
Stages of the Business Plan Competition
Regional Rounds: held in Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco Bay Area and Boston, during the month of August and September. Teams in other locations including outside the US will participate remotely. Four shortlisted teams will present a pitch in ten minutes, with five minutes for Q & A, at the regional round. A panel of judges will select one team per region to advance to the finals. One mentor will be assigned to the team, to help build a full fledged plan.
Final Round: held on October 9th at the Pan IIT USA Conference in Chicago, IL. The winners from the regional round will compete in the national round, in a format similar to the regional rounds.
Eligibility and Submission Guidelines
Eligibility: Entries from pre-revenue start-up teams with at least one IITian as founding member are welcome. Team members must be 18 years or older. The plan must be an original business idea.
Submission guidelines: You need to provide a two-page Executive Summary for evaluation by August 15th. The executive summary needs to include a concept summary, Market/Industry analysis, Product/Service Description, Revenue/Business model, Competition, Management team and Financials.
Timelines
- Aug 1: Register teams with team name and a brief summary of the plan
- Aug 15: Business plans submitted to regional chairs for judging.
- Aug 30: Judges review and select 4 regional finalists
- Sept 8: Detail business plans submitted
- Sep 15: Regional rounds - one finalist selected after in-person or virtual presentations/reviews. Mentors assigned to the top team (mentoring Sep 15-30)
- Oct 9 : Finalists at Chicago
